Some pictures from the exhibition

In 2021 appears the first monograph of Werner Gadliger. The book contains 480 pages with more than 600 photographs, shot over a period of about five decades, as well as essays written by three authors. Its layout allows an exciting dialogue between the different pictures. The image sequence follows neither a thematical nor a chronological order. According to the publisher’s instructions, the pictures are precisely dated and alphabetically listed by the names of the photo locations, underlining the focus on the unspectacular in Gadliger’s documentary photography. Whether in Basel or Buenos Aires, Riehen or Rijeka, Zurich or Zadar, Gadliger’s main focus lies on small scenes at the roadside, bizarre aspects of everyday life, unforeseen encounters on the way; the photographer is recording snapshots of a sometimes strange present with his camera.
